  • An Address to GUL from Airplane
Serge Sargsyan, leaving for London, delivered an address to the Turkish president Abdullah Gul. The message in particular runs that passing through the Turkish air territory, Serge Sargsyan conveys his greeting to Abdullah Gul and our neighboring nation. “The process of the normalization of our relations is in the centre of the attention of the international community. The moment is really historic and everyone realizes it. The efforts of the countries involved in the Armenian and Turkish normalization process are really valuable. I am sure it would be difficult to proceed without their interference. At the same time, I am sure, even if friend countries are much interested in the normalization of our relations, they cannot do what our two nations are able to do. • Armenia-Turkey Rapprochement Could Take Many Years: Council of Europe Secretary General
The reconciliation process between Armenia and Turkey is reassuring, said Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland in an interview with CNNTurk, while adding that the process might be temporary. “I don’t know what the outcome of the normalizing relations process is going to be in the short-term. I can’t say whether the Protocols will be ratified in the countries’ parliaments or not. There are political obstacles in that matter. However, the first step has been taken, and I’m sure that it won’t be the last. The process can last 5, 10 or 20 years; however, Armenia and Turkey are neighbouring countries,” said Jagland. The Council of Europe Secretary General also spoke about the role that Turkey plays not only in the region, but also in Europe, saying that he has great expectations from that country. • Biometric passports and ID cards to be implemented in 2011
The current passports will not be valid in Armenia in 2011. They will be replaced by biometric passports and ID cards. Most probably, the social security cards will not be necessary, either. The biometric passports and ID cards will contain more information about the citizens than the current documents. They will include a photo, the name, the surname, the middle name, the date of birth, the address, the prints of four fingers and the signature of the citizen. The ID cards will be used inside Armenia, while the passports will be provided only when leaving the country, Head of the Passport and Visa Department of RA Police Norayr Muradkhanyan said. The new documents will be valid for ten years. The changes are required by international organizations, particularly the Council of Europe. Radiolur
