In an interview with Al Jazeera, taken during President Sargsyan’s London trip, while discussing the Genocide recognition in the US, President Sargsyan responded in affirmative to the question whether he would like President Obama to publicly define the 1915 mass killings as genocide. Sargsyan also expressed his conviction that it was Turkey who was causing delays in the process of normalization. News.am
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met in the capital of Qatar – Doha. According to TRT, officials discussed Iran’s nuclear program, Armenia-Turkey relations, Cyprus dispute and Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Erdogan noted that the Constitutional Court ruling on Armenia -Turkey Protocols might negatively impact the process, underlining that Turkey does its utmost on the issue. News.am
Discussions on Armenian-Turkish normalisation organised by the Fletcher Club and Senchery Fund were held on February 11 in New York. Experts in international law and international relations, New York businessmen and diplomats attended the discussions. US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Bill Burns will travel to Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, and Azerbaijan from February 16-19. In Turkey, on February 18, he will have meetings with senior officials pursuant to the 2006 Shared Vision framework for US-Turkey strategic partnership. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev, will visit Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia from 14 to 17 February. Minister Saudabayev will use the trip to reiterate the OSCE support for the Minsk Group Co-Chairs mediation efforts. In his meetings, Saudabayev will also discuss the role of the OSCE in supporting democratic processes, including in areas such as elections, media environment and implementation of legislative reforms. On Friday, 12 February, police detained a brother of the pro-opposition businessman Khachatur Sukiasian, saying that he is suspected of threatening to kill a fellow entrepreneur. Saribek Sukiasian and one of his associates, Artash Stepanian, were forcibly taken to a police station. The police statement said the raid was prompted by a complaint from Gor Davtian who was allegedly forced to sign “some documents” relating to his shares in a company called Byuregh. Armenia Liberty
