Amendments to the Law on International Agreements on NA agenda
The recurrent four-day sitting will start at the National Assembly of Armenia today with 77 questions and 26 international agreements on the agenda.The issue of amending the Law on International Agreements has been put on NA agenda. The issue is somewhat connected with President Serzh Sargsyan’s directive to work out legal bases for recalling Armenia’s signature from international agreements. Opposition activists and police clash in Yerevan
The youth wing of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) launched a rally in Yerevan on February 19. A few hundred participants of the protest action complained of the allegedly rigged presidential election in 2008. At the intersection of Abobyan and Sayat-Nova streets, the protesters made an attempt to break through a police cordon. Later on during the march five activists were reportedly arrested. A1+

According to the statement disseminated by the Office of the Armenian Human Rights Defender on Friday, pardon may be granted to the persons sentenced for 5-10-year imprisonment for being privy to the 1-2 March 2008 events under Clause 7 Sub clause 2 of the resolution "On proclamation of amnesty". Taking into account the specified circumstance, the ombudsman thinks that in case the judgment of the general jurisdiction court fails to be canceled, amnesty may be applied with respect to Nikol Pashinyan. Only Peace and Stability can help the Caucasus: U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in Baku
USA, Russia and France, as OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, make efforts to make peace in the Caucasus and to find a stable and durable resolution to the conflicts in the region based on territorial integrity and self-determination of the nations, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Bill Burns said in Baku, February 19.The OSCE MG Co-chair Robert Bradke, as well as Mrs. Clinton, focus their attention on this issue believing that only peace and stability can help the Caucasus and its peoples, he said. The US official spoke of "US-Azerbaijani close relations" underlining that Washington will make special efforts to improve the level of democracy and freedom of speech in Azerbaijan. Iran has its own stance
Iran has its own stance on deployment of peacemakers in the Karabakh conflict zone, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Saghaeyan said in Yerevan on Friday.Asked if deployment of peacemakers in the liberated territories of the security zone in the Karabakh conflict, the Ambassador said that this problem must be settled by the parties to the conflict, first of all. However, Iran as the only country having common borders with Nagorny Karabakh has its own stance and notifications on this issue, the diplomat said. Nevertheless, he said, the Iranian party supports the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the OSCE chair-country Kazakhstan, regarding the Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan refutes information on firing at Karabakhi positions
February 18-19, a number of ceasefire violations were registered on the contact line of NKR and Azerbaijani armed forces. According to NKR Defense Ministry Press Service, Azerbaijani side fired at Karabakhi positions from different small arms, including sniper rifles in the directions of Horadiz, Jraberd, Nuzger, Karmiravan, Talish and Karachuk mountains. February 23, a regular monitoring of NKR-Azerbaijan armed forces’ contact line will be held in Aghdam region.
